Bitcoin and Ether options: max pain, implied volatility and skew
Options let traders bet on where Bitcoin and Ether will be by a date. Their prices say how much movement the market expects and which way it is hedging.
What it shows
- Upcoming expiries and how much is open on each.
- Max pain: the price at which the most options would expire worthless.
- Implied volatility: the size of move the market is paying for.
- Skew: whether puts or calls cost more, so which way traders are protecting themselves.
How to read it
High implied volatility means the market expects a big move, not which way. Skew toward puts means traders are paying for protection against a fall. Large expiries can pin the price near max pain in the days before.
